While Colombia is getting ready for the Christmas holidays, President Duque is getting ready for war.
The Colombian State with its aim of completing its «Consolidation Plan», a task being carried out by the Vulcan Task Force in Catatumbo, a region of Norte de Santander, Colombia, has incorporated the «Gulf Clan» or the «Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (ACG) and more recently the «Paramegas», who between them are attacking and issuing death threats against social leaders and
communities of Catatumbo.
Extractivist transnational companies at the service of imperialist capitalism which are promoting the «Mining and Energy Powerhouse» are financing and directing military and paramilitary operations in Norte de Santander, with the connivance of the Colombian bourgeoisie and oligarchy who hand over the natural resources existing in Catatumbo, stealing them from their legitimate owners, the communities struggling from time immemorial to defend their territory.
Ivan Duque is increasing steadily the presence of the Armed Forces in Catatumbo, increasing the presence of troops in addition to the Vulcan Task Force by adding the III Rapid Deployment Force, along with under-age spies like the one who was freed on 7th December, with paramilitaries and drug traffickers, among other groups; thus strengthening the forces of plunder and death. In Catatumbo the fear and anxiety generated by this criminal and warlike enterprise can already be felt.
In Catatumbo the scent of war is in the air and any possibility of welfare for local communities is castrated when faced with the threat of Alias «Otoniel», a paramilitary commander who has control of a force of 1,000 paramilitaries in support of the Paramegas, aiming to attack the territory and fill it with death and desolation as part of the «Consolidation Plan». Faced with this reality it is clear what awaits for the rest of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, as the saying goes, an old year of preparations and a New Year of «democratic preparations» for Catatumbo and its communities.
We should make it clear that the non-combatant population which has fallen victim to land mines in the zone of the Province where actions are under way against the «Paramegas» were caused by mines sown by the Paramegas during the confrontation, and they left without de-activating them or taking them away, without paying any attention to the fate of the local population. The accusations made by the Army and by the mainstream media, wanting to charge the ELN with responsibility for such actions, are not correct.
We warn the Catatumbo communities they should denounce the macabre intentions of the Colombian state, by declaring a war of occupation and extermination against the communities which inhabit this prosperous are of Norte de Santander, in the Colombian Northeast, and we invite them to raise the banner of resistance and struggle to defend their territory and the future of the new generations. To defend oneself and to confront the death squadrons is a right formulated in universal declarations of rights and for a better life for all women and men.
